What's changed
Each E.S.D. missionary comes to ESD supported financially by a sending church. ESD missionaries receive no salary from ESD. Each ESD missionary adheres to the Doctrinal Statement of Faith of ESD, and is responsible to raise their own financial support for the time of their service to the Lord at ESD. All ESD missionaries are born-again Christians.  Pray for the staff.

To read more about each of their stories, go to their webpage under the Prayer and Praise tab.

ESD TEAM    AUGUST 2010
BETSY         JUDY          ELIZABETH         JEN

Jennifer Johnson serving at ESD since July 2006 is from Glendora Friends Church, Glendora CA.  In Puerto Rico, Jen attends and is actively involved in the Palmas Community Church. Jen's specialty is early childhood education but she also works with our older students.

Elizabeth Emma joined us at the end of July 2010 coming to us from Rumson NJ where she attends Calvary Baptist Church of Oceanport NJ. Elizabeth is working with our older students in their academic subjects but takes some time to play with siblings of the Deaf students and utilizing her skills in Spanish.

Adriana Toro
finished her studies at ESD in May 2009. She joined us in August 2009 as a trainee working part-time in the classrooms and gaining experience as our kitchen supervisor. During the 2010-2011 school year, Adriana will work with us as a part-time helper in and around the classrooms.

Elisabeth Hoke from Calvary Bible Church, Hanover, PA began at ESD in August 1984.  Betsy carries out duties of  school administrator and teacher as well as overseeing the general running of the mission. In the 2010-2011 school year, Betsy is teaching our Level Two class (7 and 8 year olds) during the school day.  She also has the oldest students for Social Studies.

Judy More from Christchurch New Zealand's Opawa Baptist Church visited ESD Jan-Feb 2006 and returned for the 2007 calendar year to work as a teacher in our classrooms.  Judy returned to ESD  from September 2008 through May 2009 as a visitor and was granted a visa to come to work with us through May 2012.

Earlene and Norm Benson from Groton, NY have been working with the ESD staff since 1997. Their home church is West Groton Bible Church.  As our "Snow Birds" - they come during the winter months when the farm is quiet. Earlene teaches English,  encourages the teachers and assists with special students requiring tutoring. Norm takes care of the Grounds/Maintenance work, keeps a garden growing for our enjoyment, and shows us what consistent faithful service looks like. The Bensons are a huge blessing to our ministry.

How the Bensons Came to ESD

As a young man, Norm Benson attended a Baptist conference. One of the leaders asked him how he would serve the Lord. He said he would like to be a missionary.

Almost 50 years later, God brought Norm and Earlene to ESD. Norm took on maintenance and Earlene works in the classrooms teaching the teen-aged students differences between English and ASL.
