February 2010

They arrived on Saturday January 30 2010. Sunday they relaxed and prepped for the week ahead.
Monday they WORKed.

Digging around for pipes, looking for cracks and leaks, cutting soup labels, hugging children. All good jobs.

February 2, 2010
The day began with an object lesson in which each person was given two pieces of a magnetic toy. Individually, we were unable to make much out of our pieces but together, we made a great piece of art work.  Just so, through the united efforts of the work team and the ESD team, God is working to make a great work in and through us here.

Later the older kids made cookies with Tania

while ceilings got painted and roofs got power washed. Those were some happy looking workers!
The joy of the Lord is our strength even in painting ceilings!  The orange shirt is Bob's!

Wednesday Feb 3 2010

In chapel we are teaching the CBC team to sign "He Knows My Name" and the CBC girls are helping out!
We have a "Surf the Bible" challenge every Wednesday.
Dave ended up challenging Mizael. Can you guess who won?

We had an early lunch of pizza and then went to the El Yunque National Forest for a hike.
Between chapel and lunch, a lot of work was done - painting, cleaning, power washing...  WOOHOO
Thursday!
Chapel. Work. Tea. Work.

Saul has someone to look up to in Greg. When eventually Greg had to do serious work and Saul had to go to the classroom, there was a bit of a battle. The connection there is so sweet to watch grow. Thanks Greg! Thanks to everyone who has come and to those who have supported them in prayer and financially as well.

Friday

the regular classes happened including sign language for interested parents and community people.
We practiced the bells and had some extra help.

in the evening, after work was done, the beach had been visited, dinner was cleaned up and devotions were carried out, we had ice cream in the school chapel. enjoyed options of a movie, darts, just talking, playing Scrabble, and eventually someone said, Let's make a hearing Bell Choir. So we did.

Saturday
we played at the beach and then went to the mountains for sight seeing and roast pork.

Sunday, February 7, 2010

We visited the Evangelical Church for the Deaf (Calle Alhambra #100, Hato Rey PR) and then went to Old San Juan for some shopping (and exercise).

Monday February 8, 2010

The day started with a student's mother's car in crisis.  Then we went to a Special Olympics ceremony.
We met Mr. Puerto Rico and compared muscles.  Later the workers enjoyed a relaxing time under the clotheslines.

Tuesday Feb 9, 2010

Workers share their stories in the classroom.                       Laundry ladies do their thing!

Roof sealer goes on!     Mike and Dave make final cuts on the new white board for classroom #1.

Wednesday!

still working!

still enjoying!
FRIDAY!
(oops, sorry I missed Thursday!)

The classroom painting redorating crew with an appreciative teacher.  Tania with the cake decorators.

Scrabble with our work team.       The last supper held at El Fogon.

SATURDAY FEB 13 2010
the day they leave

The waves were big.  The sky was cloudy with sun. We enjoyed it!
Look into the ocean and see the little spot?  Left Photo. See Dave in the water?

Lining up for the USDA baggage check at the Amercan Airlines terminal.
The school van leaves the airport... with only a few ESD staff aboard.
God bless you!
